Dive into this homemade chorizo pizza! A fluffy base with those crave-worthy crispy edges, topped with rich homemade tomato sauce. And the star? Oh, just some bubbly melted cheese-hugging spicy chorizo!
Fresh basil leaves or parsley, for garnish, optional
Instructions
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you're using a pizza stone, place it in the oven during preheating.
Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness. If you have a pizza peel, transfer the rolled-out dough onto it. Otherwise, place it on a parchment paper-lined or lightly greased baking sheet.
Top the Dough:
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
Distribute the chorizo slices over the cheese.
Season and Oil: Lightly brush the crust with olive oil. Sprinkle the dried oregano and garlic powder over the entire pizza for added flavor (optional).
Bake:
If using a pizza stone: Slide the pizza onto the stone in the oven. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
If using a baking sheet: Place the sheet in the oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves or parsley if desired. Slice into 8 pieces using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. Serve immediately.
Notes
Pizza Dough: If you're using store-bought pizza dough, ensure it's at room temperature before rolling it out. This will make it easier to handle and shape.
Tomato Sauce: Using a thick sauce will prevent the pizza from becoming soggy. If your sauce is too thin, consider simmering it on the stove for a bit to reduce and thicken.
Chorizo: Ensure you're using cured or pre-cooked chorizo slices. Fresh chorizo will release a lot of grease and may not cook thoroughly during the pizza's baking time.
Cheese: Feel free to adjust the amount of cheese based on your preference. You can also mix in other cheeses like cheddar or provolone for a different flavor profile.
