Hey everyone! Let's talk hallowe’en for a sec. What I really mean to ask is- can we skip the creepy and kinda gross foods (peeled grapes) and drinks (fake eyeball juice) this year and trade it all in for something altogether much more glam? I’ve got the perfect thing. We all need to be drinking these. Bloody Rosemary Cocktails are what we all need to be drinking for hallowe’en and all autumn long.
This cocktail is what Hallowe’en is all about. Because it's a bit rich and savoury with a pepper-y hit and a classic vodka base. As I was coming up for the idea of this drink, (serious hallowe'en cocktail inspo here) I was thinking about classic horror flicks and how I could incorporate a title or a film. Or create a movie based twist. But, then it hit me. Rosemary’s Baby. The classic horror flick… mixed with a Bloody Mary… Bloody Rosemary Cocktails…? Ummm… yeah. A match made in scary movie and cocktail heaven. Therefore, it was a moment where having a noisy mind really worked in my favour!
I’m usually partial to a cocktail that’s on the sweet side. But after these spicy flavour bombs, I’m a true convert to the rich and savoury side. And, I think after one sip you will be too! Because, hi, there tomatoes and rosemary and tabasco and pepper and worcestershire sauce and clean crisp vodka and lots of ice. So, all these things add up to savoury cocktail goodness. But here’s the deal with the “twists”. Because, not being the biggest fan of celery salt I used reeeeally flaky sea salt for the rims of the glasses. And maybe I used some chipotle tabasco sauce, and by “maybe” I mean I totally did that and it was soooooo good. And that rosemary thing happening… well it just really needed to happen.
I was asked by thebar.com to create a cocktail inspired by Hallowe’en, I jumped at the chance to embrace my inner Tom Cruise, even though I’ve never actually seen the movie Cocktail.
But whateves, that’s besides the point… I mixed and sampled and stirred and swivelled until vodka and tomato perfection was reached. <- That’s what you call taking one for the team. 😉
In other Hallowe’en news… Mr T and I are going away for a short break for the second time this year. This is where we sleep late and eat too much and enjoy a few cocktails on a weeknight! AKA these are most luxurious 3 days ever. But this year we are checking into a gorgeous little hotel in Shaftesbury. We thought that this could be a fab little town to enjoy a ghost walk. So, I started to Google my heart out. I was looking to see what kinds of spooky things were on offer. We don’t need to go too far. We're staying in a gorgeous little hotel. But, it is one of the most haunted hotels in the UK. I’m spooked easily on a slow news day… never mind in a haunted hotel hundreds of miles from home.
So, won't get much sleep that night. We won't be turning the lights out until the sun comes up! I will be up all night in the bar keeping myself awake and sipping on these Bloody Rosemary Cocktails.
